For as long as I can remember I wanted a beautiful lap dog called a Yorkshire Terrier. I had this image of a quiet little dog content to sit on my lap and be extremely well behaved. I had 3 hooligan Jack Russel Terriers and thought it time for a quiet and calm little dog. After convincing my husband as to why I needed another dog I purchased Roxanne in 2005. Roxanne was tiny and so adorable just what I had been looking for. Within days we came to realise that they are not called Yorkshire Terriers for nothing. The word "Terriers" say it all. Once a Terrier always a Terrier. It soon became evident that this was no ordinary "lap dog" this was a full blown Terrier. Her nickname became "Rocket Roux" as she tore around the house after the Jack Russels. Reality set in this, was a real live wire little dog full of mishief and energy. My husband later admitted that he had dreaded me getting this "little lap dog" but he was totally bowled over by this "little lion" that had come to stay.
Rocket went most places with us but there were times when she had to stay at home. I wasn't concerned because she was all snug in her bed in our bedroom. Then one day while I was sitting in our lounge our African Grey Parrot began to howl in the most pitiful little voice. I realised it was Roxannes voice and that when we went out for an hour or two she wasn't lying all snug in her bed but was howling her lungs out. I convinced my husband that she needed a friend and so we purchased Theodore or "Teddy" as we call him in 2006. I was worried at first that Rocket might be jealous and fight with Teddy. Boy was I wrong he was the best gift ever and Rocket was over the moon with her new playmate. They played for hours on end and I realised that Yorkies are very social dogs that love human and canine company.
Yorkies seem to be contagious and in October 2006 I purchased a pocket size boy Mylo and a pocket size girl Prada Diva. At first I was worried the two older dogs would fight with the two new puppies. No such thing they all became one happy family. Then in April 2007 Roxanne gave birth to 4 healthy puppies, Teddy was the proud father of the 2 boys and 2 girls. The puppies were adorable and it was very hard to sell them. I was also concerned that they would go to the correct homes. I found good homes and sent them to their new homes with blankets, food and most important information on how to take care of them, something I had only received from one breeder.
Just one word of caution when purchasing a Yorkie or any animal for that matter, do so from a reputable breeder who has both parents on view. I have heard endless sad tales of yorkies being purchased only to die a few days later. I know of people spending a fortune on a "pocket size" Yorkie who ends up a huge dog. There are really some breeders out there who are in it for the money, with no concern for the welfare of the dogs. Some even purchase puppies cheaply and sell them off for more money with promises of posting the registration papers etc. Guess what the papers never arrive and the puppy turns out to be either sick or a large size dog. Please be warned when a breeder gives you the run around with all kinds of excuses why the parents aren't available to see or why it's not convenient to view the puppies yet. They are out there trust me!
Please be warned about adverts that are giving away teacups for adoption. This is a SCAM involving syndicates that operate from CAMEROON. They are low life cheats out to scam people out of their cash. They sell yorkies, monkeys, parrot eggs etc. please be warned many people have been scammed and paid money for animals that never arrive. If animals are offered for free or are being sold cheaply BE WARNED it is guaranteed to be a scam. I have had dealings with these people and was fortunate not to be caught out but I have a fair knowledge of how they operate so feel free to contact me and I can give you some advice. This is a massive ring of scammers who operate world wide and need to be stopped.
