Hello,
I guess for some this is the season of the easter bunny and loads of easter eggs. While it is nice to indulge in all the chocolate and give the kids easter bunnies etc. let's not forget the true meaning of easter. The fact that our Saviour died for our sins so that we may have eternal life.
Had a most disturbing phone call the other day a man phoned to ask if I had any rabbits for sale and what their price was. On hearing the price he turned around and said that he wasn't prepared to pay that for a rabbit that the dog would probably end up eating. I politely told him I could not help him and to find someone else who would. What is the point if the dog is probably going to kill the poor thing - why buy it in the first place. I've even had people asking if I had white rabbits so they could dye them pink!!! There are really some weird people out there. It's my policy not to help these people and I will not sell to them ever!!
Hope you all have a blessed and peaceful Easter.

Hello
I hope there weren't too many rabbits given as unwanted gifts for easter. I had someone call up the other day looking for "lots of bunnies", on further enquiry I was told that a coach wanted to give each child in her team a rabbit for easter! Can you imagine most of the parents reactions to an unwanted pet rabbit. Please ask permission before buying other people animals as gifts. Not everyone appreciates the gesture and these poor pets normally end up as rescue cases. All pets however small envolve time, work and effort not everyone is prepared to sacrifice their time to care for a pet. Some of us on the other hand don't see it as a sacrifice but a privilege.

Hello
Recently someone told me that they had been told dwarf rabbits were unsuitable as pets for children. i would like to add my opinion and that is that I do not agree with this statement. Yes, I agree a rabbit can scratch and hurt a small child if it is being manhandled and chased and terrorised. I have sold many rabbits as pets over the years and mostly as pets to little kids. If they are handled gently and not frightened they will become very tame. A friends' grandson has his rabbit in the house using a sandbox and it sits and watches TV in front of the heater with him. This little boy is 3 years old but has been taught to treat animals with respect and to be gentle with them. I agree if a brat is given a rabbit as a pet and the child chases the poor thing and terrifies it then yes it will be an unsuitable pet!!!
When buying a pet for a child make sure that the child is capable of treating the pet correctly obviously adult supervision is always recommended no child can be left to care properly for an animal. It should always be the adults responsibility to check that the child is caring for the animal properly with regards care and feeding. Please be wise when selecting a pet for a child.

Hello
Sorry there hasn't been news but we have had no cables thanks to copper thieves. With Spring around the corner and warmer weather on the way there should be some new babies making their arrivals soon. Breeding rabbits in winter results in some losses as they often fall out the nest and end up dying of the cold.
Then on a sad note my oldest and one of my smallest rabbits Ticky died. I fortunetly kept some of her offspring over the years but she will be missed. Below is a photo taken this year.

Hello
I had a phone call today from someone asking for advice regarding their rabbit. The rabbit had recently had a litter and was very thin and losing hair. I have never had this problem before but after asking a few questions immediatly put it down to incorrect diet. The rabbit was being fed layer pellets and lettuce!!! Please, please never feed rabbits lettuce I know rabbits are always portrayed eating lettuce but fed constantly can be deadly!!! The lettuce causes enteritis and the rabbit has a constant runny tummy. A rabbits basic diet should be green grass and pellets and occasionally carrots, cabbage, parsley and apples. Try limit vegetables to twice a week only to avoid causing a digestive problems.
A good remedy for any animal rabbits included when suffering from problems with the gut is to add Protexin (available at your local vet) to their water. It helps restore the natural bacteria in their gut and can be used whenever necessary or even every day.

Hello
Time has flown and it's been ages since I've updated my news but the online shop etc has taken up so much time. I have had major problems with my rabbit breeding program. My rabbits are heading for 5 and 6 years old so their breeding days are so to say nearly finished. I don't cage my rabbits but they are housed in 2mx2m paddocks with 2 rabbits per paddock they have a nice warm house as well. Due to the fact they aren't in cages a feral cat decided to target my rabbits and started eating all my babies. We finally caught it and the problem has been solved so hopefully I will have new babies shortly. I have once again ordered some rabbits from a friend and I have bought 6 from fancydwarfs in the Cape so my breeding programme should be on track soon. I have bought the most stunning angora rabbits and will post pictures soon.

Hello
We've been busy this side upgrading my rabbit enclosures and next on the list is to build them wooden ramps so they can entertain themselves. They have all received new warm houses and their enamel bowls have all been replaced with stainless steel bowls. It was quite pricey but worth it in the end they are just so much healthier for the rabbits and longer wearing. I really don't recommend plastic bowls and that goes for any animal I find them a breeding ground for germs.
New babies should be arriving soon I can't wait seems like ages since I had baby rabbits. I'm pleased to announce I once again have a tiny male stud. He will soon be old enough to mate with my 5 remaining smaller rabbits. These are my special rabbits as their sizes are really hard to come by. I will be hanging on to the babies so I can build up a good stock again of the small dwarfs.
Below is a picture of "Bubbles" when he was 5 weeks old.
