Welcome to my website. I hope you enjoy browsing through it!

BACKGROUND HISTORY

I’ve always had a great love for animals and took many a stray home when growing up. Living in a residential area I was limited to cats, dogs and birds, but this all changed when we moved to a small holding 5 years ago. I was like a kid let loose in a candy store. First the dwarf rabbits arrived, then the Cameroon dwarf goats, next came Pumba the potbelly pig. To this a few chickens were added, then came the geese and ducks but there was still plenty of space left. So Baba the sheep arrived and close on her heels followed 2 ponies.

It soon became a joke amongst friends that when they came to visit they were coming to “the animal farm”. Hence an idea was born and I started an animal-petting farm, catering for children’s birthdays and school outings. This helps to fund the care and upkeep of all the animals. This justified the purchase of even more animals and so horses and donkeys were added to the menagerie.

Soon Baba needed a friend and so Daisy the cow was added and where Baba goes, Daisy goes. It didn’t stop there. Soon Thambi the marmoset arrived and now he has 6 other “monkey” friends. Next the orphans started to arrive, deserted goats that had to be hand raised. The horses multiplied and at present we have 16 and a miniature horse foal on the way, it will be our first. We can’t wait for the “big day".

Soon guinea pigs where added but no sooner had they arrived, than we ended up burying them. It became a great frustration and soon I decided to give them up as a bad job. While browsing the web one day I typed in guinea pigs and started to read about these funny little creatures. I soon realised how ignorant most people are about their care and nutrition. As luck would have it I found a South African website (see link on my guinea pig page) and was amazed at what I saw. I just had to have some of those and so 4 were purchased.

Within 2 weeks 3 more where added and then another 2 and so on and so on…

The next animal that I encountered, that also tends to be kept in conditions not ideal to the animal, was the chinchilla (known as chinchilla lanigera). So I started browsing again and somehow I just happened upon a website that took my breath away (see link on my chinchilla page). I just had to have some of those. The only thing was, they lived in Ohio USA and were sold in US Dollars. Nonetheless, four of us got together and up to date we have collectively purchased 30!!! These are absolute show quality and come from the best breeding stock in the world. They will arrive on 5 October 2007 and be quarantined for 30 days, so watch my chinchilla page for news of their arrival.

I have now made it my mission to inform potential pet owners as to the proper care of their pets. It saddens me that so many pets are sold by ignorant people to uninformed owners. I have made it my duty to research every pet I own, in order to be able to give it the best possible care. There is no excuse as long as we have the WORLD WIDE WEB you can search for anything. Ignorance is not always bliss!

This is one of the reasons for the existence of this website. I will continue to publish good, solid information and links on (mini)pet care, health and other advice. So, bookmark us and keep coming back for more!

Best Wishes,

Karen
